My Fabulous Idea!

Ah, I'm so humble. So I finally came up with an idea that will help take care of at least a few posts (without me having to plan them out too much in advance or brainstorm topics) and will be fun! There is a Canadian website called Wattpad that is very popular. People of all ages write novels/poems for the world to see, for free. Besides the regular people who want to be authors someday, it is also used by quite a few Indie authors to publicize their books and create a following (or sometimes books on Wattpad become so popular that people start asking for it to be published...and then the author self-publishes or goes for a traditional publisher). Anyways, here's the idea: Every once in a while (I wanna say once a week but that might be too much) I will pick a book, and it has to be a finished book, from Wattpad and spotlight it here on my blog. It won't necessarily be a self-published book. I might include author interviews sometimes if I can get them. And I have yet...

Scarves + Fifth Harmony

So I'm extremely proud. I've managed to write 4,686 words or ten Microsoft word pages in two days, which might not be a lot to you guys (in fact I'm pretty sure it's not) but I'm glad I made myself do this project.  I have even almost convinced myself that I can start my own novel pretty soon. Which would be awesome sauce.  Today was so rainy and nasty! Blegh. Our backyard is literally brown slop with tiny dots of grass. I also painted my nails today, I usually don't because I am SO clumsy and usually scrape the not-dry-yet nails against something and mess them up. But I did them today and they look okay.  On another note, a while ago, one of my aunts showed me how to make scarves with a type of crocheted yarn/lace. It's really simple and fun (and the scarves are beautiful).  It might be neat to post the easy steps on how to make them here. They're perfect for birthday gifts or Christmas gifts if you celebrate Christmas (I don't, but e...

Inconceivable Announcements

I slept in really late today (almost eleven) and I've been meaning to get a couple good posts out, but my little sister forced me to write with her.  Let me explain.  As you may have noticed, I do write sometimes but I mostly read. I don't offer writing tips and stuff because I don't write too often and I don't count myself as a particularly gifted writer. I would love to write a book, but I usually get the characters and then have zero plot. Apparently, this is unacceptable. So my younger sister told me I had to write some today. So I partnered up to write parts of a novella she's writing (she's very driven. She's working on two novels and the novella. I usually just watch in disbelief and shake my head at her insanity. It works).  It's actually going better than I thought it would. I disciplined myself to write a little over 1800 words in one sitting. I'm guessing my sister's going to make me do more after she's done showering. *...

Book Review (Mila 2.0)

Image
Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do. Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life. To be honest with you, I didn't like this book for the first few chapters. I thought it was neat that it started out in the country and that Mila was a normal girl because that's unusual for sci-fi, but the author took too long showing us Mila's normal (or not so normal) life. Until chapter fourteen. From there, the chase picked up and it's non-stop action and finding...

New Old Books

This is where I list the books I got from my favorite used-books store. Now that I think about it, I usually do this after I've read all of them, but I got six this time and with the stuff I have to do for school and the R.E.A.D.S. that I have to read before a certain time they are not top priorities.  I just got two college applications turned in. By the way, if you're applying to many colleges (in the United States) you should definitely use the Common Application if those schools use it because it is so much simpler. You don't have to request transcripts and standard test scores every time you apply which takes so much stress off of the whole process. You don't have to wonder whether or not the transcripts and test scores will get to the colleges by their deadlines.  I aim to do a lot more educational extra stuff tonight and maybe a little tomorrow (but there's a big family Thanksgiving, so...much less probability of happening).  I know, I know. When a...

Shoving, Used Books, and Long Excuses

Please tell me I'm not the only one who hates pushing and shoving through crowds in order to buy clothes that are fifty percent off. Black Friday. Yep, unfortunately, I had to go through some of that torture today (and went to Wal-Mart with my mom yesterday which was a nightmare). I do like the fact that I got a few cute tops and a gorgeous necklace though... I also went to my favorite book store and got a pile of books-- six for about thirteen dollars. Which I will debrief you on tomorrow hopefully and maybe use one of them in a book review. Actually, now that I think about it, that might be a little repetitive so I'll probably review some R.E.A.D.S. that I've read (I've borrowed loads more since last time). It's so nice scrolling down my kindle app and seeing their pretty little covers (that's literal. the covers are very little). I'm also going to be watching movies with family this weekend. I am beyond thankful that I got this week off in college c...

Blog Button + iWOMAN2

Image
I am so excited about this! Can you tell? I figured out how to make a blog button for my blog via a very helpful article on WikiHow, which I will link here . The html thingamajigger is under it, and I'll keep it there until I figure out how to put it on the sidebar or something similar. I just wanted to put this on here, before continuing the iWOMAN post like I said I would. Ha! In your face. Sorry. I get excited when I prove people wrong.  Today's iWOMAN post will be on novels with strong heroines. I'm going to try to pick less well-known books (and not necessarily all in Young Adult fiction) because that way you all can hopefully find some books that you haven't read before that catch your interest and add them to your "to-read" list on Goodreads or...you know, your favorite notebook (but we both know you have a Goodreads account. if you dont...I can't say anything because I just got mine a few months ago). So I won't be putting b...
