March Books Recap

Image
Today I tallied up this month's reads and winced at the pitiful, scraggy list. I don't know what it's been lately, school stress, preparing for college in the fall...I haven't been able to read at my usual speed. Hopefully, I'll be able to read more as summer comes closer. Summer break. Ah. Just think of the books I'll be able to cross off my TBR list. *PICTURE OF ALL THE BOOKS I READ TO COME* How many books did I read in March? *sigh* 9. And that's counting a novella and a book I DNF'd. Eight YA novels and one adult. Favorite? Definitely The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. The characters were awesomely quirky, the plot and premise were unique and awesome. And the way the lives of all the characters were entwined was mind-blowing. It's like seeing a close-up of a maze, and slowly the camera pans out and you understand . I loved the main character, Blue.  Least Favorite? Well, I DNF'd As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott so....

The Help (And How I Love It Almost as Much as Chocolate)

Three ordinary women are about to take one extraordinary step. Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi, and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone. Aibileen is a black maid, a wise, regal woman raising her seventeenth white child. Something has shifted inside her after the loss of her own son, who died while his bosses looked the other way. She is devoted to the little girl she looks after, though she knows both their hearts may be broken. Minny, Aibileen's best friend, is short, fat, and perhaps the sassiest woman in Mississippi. She can cook like nobody's business, but she can't mind her tongue, so she's lost yet another job. Minny finally finds a position...

What's Next? is a weekly meme hosted by Asma at Icey Books every Thursday. Below are some books that are on my TBR (or to be read) list. Which one should I read first?   Everything has been downhill since Zoey Trask’s mother was murdered in a random mugging. Her younger brother, Ben, is on the autistic spectrum and needs constant supervision. It’s senior year, and she’s the new girl at a weird private school in Old Town Alexandria, VA, full of kids who seem too nice to be true—including a very cute boy named Pete. Aside from half-forgotten martial arts and survivalist skills that her widowed father insisted on teaching her (because that is excellent for her social life), Zoey has nothing to offer Pete or anyone else. Then Dad is kidnapped. Zoey suddenly finds herself sole caretaker of a younger brother she barely understands. Worse, Ben seems to hold the key to their father’s disappearance in his Dream Diary, a bizarre journal of names and places ...
