Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read

I'm actually a little embarrassed by some of these...because, well, pretty much everybody else has read them. I hate you guys. I am so jealous. Seriously.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted  by The Broke and the Bookish. Basically, lists. I love lists. They put up the Top Tens for several weeks in advance, and they're all book related!

1. J. K. Rowling Yes, I am aware that I'm a failure. Apparently, the Harry Potter books are amazing and I do want to read them. I just haven't gotten around to it.

2. Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight series and The Host. I really want to read The Host because I watched the movie and it was awesome. But, I'm a little wary of the Twilight series because of the HUGE amount of negative opinions on it. I plan on trying it out anyways though.

3. John Green *sobs* I'm sorry (My sins are unpardonable). I really want to read The Fault in Our Stars because there's a movie coming out and I've heard so many good things about it (the book).

4. Rainbow Rowell I can't tell you how bad I want to read Eleanor & Park and Fangirl. The covers are epic and unique, and it sounds like I would really identify with the female main character from Fangirl. Writes fanfiction? Check. Socially awkward? Check. I think Cath and I are meant to be bosom friends.

5. Markus Zusak There is also a movie coming out for The Book Thief (Is anyone else loving all of the book-to-movies happening?). It's a whopping 552 pages, but I want to muscle through it because of the good rep it has and because I want to. I'm very logical.

6. Richelle Mead Yes, yes, I know. This one's going to be a movie to. The girls look kick-butt in the movie trailer and the idea of half-vampires who protect the full-blooded ones is a really neat concept. The movie trailer is really what convinced me to read it (just like for The Mortal Instruments, which, yes, I have read).

7. James Dashner Karoline at As a Teen Writer had a blog post out where she wanted a few people to volunteer to write guest reviews for The Maze Runner. I thought it was neat and signed up, and that's how I discovered The Maze Runner. It sounds awesome!

8. Marie Lu The Legend series is another series that I just haven't gotten around to reading yet. The covers look delicious. The premise is really intriguing (Like almost every other dystopian novel. I feel like those dogs in Up! when they see squirrels).

9. Ally Condie I'm not really into books based totally on love and relationships and balloon hearts popping above the characters' heads (ew), but Matched and its cohorts stand out because 1) the relationships are chosen and 2) major cover love.

10. J. R. R. Tolkien I know I should have at least one Tolkien book checked off my TBR list but honestly the idea of tackling something that is known for its old and flowery language and is a classic makes me want to cringe. I don't like classics too often, but I feel like I should at least try Tolkien sometime.

If you're like me and you only have an iffy idea of what is counted as popular (What. I just read, I don't know, okay?), then you should Google (because it has all the answers) and check out the Goodreads and Amazon lists. The Amazon list is based on book sales so I would say it's pretty accurate (oh, and I searched 'young adult' novels) and the Goodreads list is based more on reader opinion.

  1. haha. I really enjoyed reading this post especially about how you relate to the main character of Fangirl (which, by the way, I highly recommend) because I completely concur. (Do you mind if I ask what you fanfiction username is?) and if it makes you feel any better I haven't read twilight or the book thief either.

    1. Whew, I feel so much better now. We can wallow in shame together :D

Haha thank you! I had loads of fun writing this. My fanfiction username is SkyeDancer (wacky, I know) *snickers at self* and it's only for onedirectionfanfiction.com... I need to make excuses for my writing now :) I was going through a period where I guess I was getting frustration out by dropping the f-bomb every few seconds. Blegh. It's awful. I don't really write fanfics anymore.

By the way, I love the name of your blog! I wanted to be an introvert aka follower really bad but the Google Friend Connect thing won't work :(

    3. hi! okay I don't really know what's wrong with it right now and I'm still trying to figure it out but if you still want to follow it, there are two little orange boxes in the upper right corner and if you click those it works. I would love to have you be the first introvert on my blog!

  2. Oh gosh, my list is SO similiar to yours. Except I have most definitely read Ally Condie, and I hate to admit it, but there's few books I was quite as bored with as Matche d(you might like it though, tooootally don't take my word for it). I DO love JK Rowling, even though I'm not finished her series yet, oh, oh! I just got Fangirl in the mail. Soooo excited. :)

    1. O.O Cait. Have you been spying on me? XD They are pretty similar, huh.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see and read it. To be honest, The Selection didn't really live up to my expectations....it was a little boring. Now I want to read Fangirl even more!!

    1. We must band together and stay strong. *sniffles* We'll be okay.

Thank you :) I didn't know if I would be able to get together ten authors I hadn't read...turns out it was easy (way to squash my reader's ego).

  5. Lol quite a list. Let's see - I've read all the Harry Potter books and they're amazing! I still remember when I read the first one - I was so astounded by the world J.K. Rowling created that I pulled an all-nighter to finish it. My best friend and I read the 7th book together. Ah, brings back wonderful memories.
The Fault in Our Stars is on my List-To-Read - I saw the movie trailer which looked awesome so of course I had to go get the book. lol
I love Twilight book 1 & 4-they are among my favorite books-the books are better than the movie. You should try the books anyway. I usually don't look at popularity or negativity-I check out the synopsis and covers and read what I like. So try Twilight. You might like it.
Ally Condie's Matched series is on my List-To-Read as well. Just gotta get to it.
I loved Vampire Academy when I read it-totally dig Dimitri. And the Lord of The Rings trilogy is one of my favorite movies so curiosity piqued, I did read the books.

    1. I've watched the first Harry Potter movie, so I guess I'm doing it backward lol. It's ridiculously hard to get a hold of a copy of HP at my library.
Of course, you had to read TFioS! Awesome movie trailers do things like that.
And yay, a vote of confidence for the Twilight books :D I will eventually read them, despite the love/hate relationships it seems to make. I don't usually let popular negativity influence my choices either :)
We need more time (I speak for all readers). We just do. No time and a gazillion more books appear when you just finish a few. Eh, what can you do.
Hehe, I think a lot of girls dig Dimitri.
Did you like the Lord of the Rings trilogy?

    2. Hey. Yes I liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but lord, it was a looooonnnng book lol. It's heavy reading but I'm glad I read it. I loved the movies so I wanted to see what the book was like :)
Oh, man, looks like I have to dig a lot of graves to clear up the way to Dimitri *wink* lol
And Breaking Dawn is totally one of my favorite books - especially the third part :) I've read it twice lol
You're absolutely right, we need more time. I wish I could live forever just so I could read the thousands of books I want to.

    3. I know. I'd love to be able to read books forever! I've always wanted to have a personal library. Like a room in my house specifically for books. My sister and I read so many of the same books (and like many of the same ones) so now we call dibs :P. It's awful because dibs means whoever called it gets to buy it first whether at our used-book store or brand new. Sometimes it takes ages for the dibs to go away *pouts*
      Better start digging. XD
Those are my greatest fear--huge books with tiny print and flowery writing. I'm gonna push myself to read it though. I WILL DO IT. Eventually.

  6. Interesting list. I ADORE the HP books but my husbands straight up refuses to read them. On one hand it's crazy you've not read them but then again, J.K.R. keeps making stupid comments in the press so it's not as crazy.
The Rowell books are AMAZING!!! You will probably love them.
The others...well, I don't have many nice things to say about them so I won't say anything at all. ^_^

    1. Haha. You don't even like John Green? *gasp* :D Urgh, yes, I want to read the Rowell books sooo bad. I saw a copy of Eleanor & Park at a bookstore recently and I would have stroked the cover but people were watching XD I wanted to get it so bad but...expensive.
It's not so much the press and JK Rowling influencing me as much as it is lack of books at my library. *le sigh*
