When Will I Ever Get Better at Painting?? 🎨

Image
There's this common insecurity in art (and life probably, at least in my case) that "perfection" is so unattainable that people just don't try to attain anything because they're so scared that their art won't live up to their expectations. I am very guilty of this. That's one of the reasons I'm thankful for art school, because it forces me to overcome this with very real consequences if I don't. *cough* grades, yes I'm a nerd *cough* More recently I've become a little more okay with not being perfect, with letting the paint lie where it accidentally splats, and with not obsessing over the tiniest detail in a design spread. Just a little though. It's a hard fight, and all I can say is that I win it more often than I used to. ðŸ˜‚ While looking through some of my old art pictures on Facebook and some of my paintings from Painting 1 (what probably will be my last required, graded paintings), I thought it'd be cool to compare...

A (College) Senior Moment

Image
Yes, this a play on words. Yes, I'm a senior. Yes, school has started. I'm fine. Recently, I was reading all of my blog posts about college life, which I really enjoyed, and I realized that I haven't written anything for senior year yet. Which I need to memorialize, because it's senior year. The wobbly stepping stone between adulthood and whatever the weird in-between phase college was. It's full of, you know, responsibilities that are just lurking around every corner. Every. corner. This year includes some semi-big changes like moving into my first apartment on my own, without a roommate--the same roommate that I've had for three years. I don't have super strong feelings about this. I never had one of those horrible roommate experiences that you hear about all the time when you're a freshman (and for the rest of college). We were in a very neutral, chill zone of friendship or maybe acquaintanceship that never quite reached close frien...

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDENT

Image
author's note : this was actually written on and is about February 7th. enjoy! 9 am - The alarm on my phone goes off. I hate the noise so much, and I used to have it on just vibrate, but I've been so tired and busy this school year that I'm too scared to do that anymore. This is one of my late morning days. On Mondays and Wednesdays I get up at 7. ðŸ˜’ 9:15 am - I manage to actually get out of bed. 9:30 am -  Take a shower. 10 am - I check all my social media and try to make sense of this week's to-do list. Feel strong waves of despair as I look at the 8 homework assignments for Professional Practices (plus other homework and projects for other classes) to be completed in a week. Check my student email. Boring stuff. the set-up 10:30 am -  I start working on my heart art that's due tomorrow afternoon. In my defense, I've had an extremely busy, stressful past couple days. Hopefully I can work on it more later and write my art analysis on it. ...

21 FACTS OF ADULTING (COLLEGE EDITION)

Image
I'm back from college for winter break! GET HYPE. I'm really excited to watch my favorite shows, read, do my own art projects...sleep maybe. But I'm not here to talk about sleeping, no matter how much I love it. I'm here to bring you all the things I've learned about being an adult. Which are a lot obviously. I'm a pro. 1. Bread molds way too fast. Except for the cheap kind that doesn't really even smell like bread. THAT pretty much lasts forever.  2. For the first few weeks, college cafeteria food is not as bad as they said, and yet somehow three months later becomes just as bad as they said.  3. Meat is way too expensive. And complicated. Who has time for seasoning, marinating,... whatever the heck you call it when you have to soften the meat? Isn't meat already soft? If it's not, then doesn't that mean you probably shouldn't try to cook it anyway? 4. Cooking in general takes way too much time. Time you could be using...

It's a Random Day {6}

Image
So, I got my ish together and went and checked to see what number of "It's a Random Day" posts I was actually at . I haven't done as many as I thought I had. This must be remedied.  I seem to write all these posts at the times when I least  need to be doing them and doing other things, productive things like say, finish reading my history book or studying for my Mass Communications exam tomorrow.  But, instead, let me tell you about all the extremely exciting things that happened today (by extremely I mean not. I was being sarcastic. Sometimes I'm so dryly sarcastic that my friends at college don't know if I'm for real or not.) School-wise.... it hasn't been extremely gross I guess. But kinda blegh. I'm having a hard time getting into the groove with my design project (would you like a post about my design process at some point? sorry, really random. going back to the topic...), I'm kind of just done with clay at the mom...

6 Steps to Conquering a New Semester (Kpop Style)

Image
Since I've been back at school for a week and seeing as how Kpop's such a huge part of my life now (as you probably have noticed in my song section of recaps hehe), I thought I'd incorporate it into one of my posts in a fun way. *grins* This way I get to talk about Kpop without totally losing you non-kpoppers. ;)  Welcome to my Back to School: VIXX Edition  post!  For those of you who don't know, VIXX is my favorite Kpop (that is Korean pop music) group ever. My favorite member is the cocky one who raps and... At this point you're probably rolling your eyes because everybody *cough* parents *cough* has told you this SO MANY TIMES.  But I'm here to tell you... being organized actually helps. Like a lot. I am normally a very unorganized, scatter-brained person but at school I have tons of things going on. Things with scary deadlines. Things that I have to carefully set up around each other.  So, be organized. I promised...
